WHAT MAKES A MAZE SO TERRIFYING?
Is it because our sight is limited by all the high walls? That feeling of being watched? Or is it the unknown and the feeling of not being in control? I personally think that it is the third option, since Humans are known to be arrogant and a bunch of control freaks.
HOW TO MAKE A SCARY MAZE
First, you need a good layout. Something that is twisty and full of sharp turns that will confuse people greatly. Second, you need to make the walls high enough so that nobody can look around and see where the treasure is. Thirdly, you need to add a combination of random objects and scary stuff to keep people on their toes. Fourth, you need to decorate the place up, as in cover the whole place in spider webs, blood, and gore. You gotta make it have the implication, you know, that something bad could happen, but it won't.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF MAZES
You can use these in real life and in Minecraft. The first type would be the hay maze, obviously. This type would be best suited on farms and wide open spaces.
The next one would be the hedge mazes. These would be found in the forests, and perhaps may be more scarier than the hay mazes, due to the environment. Its way more darker and claustrophobic than anything.
Another maze I would consider is the Haunted Houses, even though it would be inside instead of outside. If you have ever been inside one, then you would know that this is perhaps the most frightening of all mazes due to the fact that you are trapped inside and cannot escape easily or call for help instantaneously.
